Welcome!

So far we have been blessed with three wonderful dogs. Goldie, a Great Dane mix, Linda Louise, an English Bulldog and our new addition, Bobbie Lee, a Jack Russell Terrier. We should be careful when saying ‘blessed’. The dogs that chose to share their lives with us have each developed, early, their own specific health issue/s. When it was time to add an animal to our life we must have carried a sign ‘Willing to go to the ends of the earth for you!’ so that those special animals knew who to pick.

Our family vet has been there for many of our kids problems – both big and small. At times we have had an after hour emergency or had a health issues that our family vet felt needed a specialist. Luckily, we live in Southern California and have a number of options to choose from. Our favorite has and will continue to be All-Care Animal Referral Center in Fountain Valley, California. All-Care is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day and has vets on site at all times. Quality of life has been the guiding factor when making any decision regarding care for our kids, be it at home or at with the vet. As with all decisions in our lives we are careful to make informed ones and our vets have been there for us every time.

Goldie started out getting kennel cough which turned to pneumonia when she was six months old, later in her life she bloated, had a series of bladder infections, three different types of cancer, a heart condition and back problems. Goldie’s section will go over each of her health issues as she moved through her life. She sadly passed away on August 28th, 2001 - quietly and peacefully in her sleep.

Linda Louise, what can we say - she is a bulldog. Or as one of vets likes to say she is ‘made up of used parts’. Just about anything that can go wrong with a dog can go wrong with a bulldog and pretty much has with Linda Louise. Linda Louise has had mange, a foxtail up her nose, viral growths in her eye, ulcers in her eye, of course there was the cherry eye, breathing problems, arthritis, elbow dysplasia, and a thyroid condition – all before she was six years old. Make sure you come back to this section because we can guarantee you that this is a story in progress.

Bobbie Lee is our newest addition. She was born on July 8, 2001. So far, aside from being spayed (all our pets are and will be spayed and or neutered) she has had only one serious health problem. At the age of eight months Bobbie Lee ate part of her chew toy and it became lodged in her intestines and she needed emergency surgery. Then at seventeen months she developed allergies--our current battle. Since she is a Jack Russell, I am told to make sure that I save room on this site for future stories of her and her antics.

All of the above topics are highlighted in each of the specific sections reserved for our ‘kids’. Along with their specific health issues we will share other health related topics for you to think about. One topic specifically discussed in Linda Louise’s section is ‘Are we over vaccinating our pets?’

Please note that we are not veterinarians, nor do we work in the animal health care field in any way shape or form. We are simply pet owners that want to talk about our kids and maybe some of the information that we supply can be of use to you in the care of your own.
